In addition to the three holidays that were already planned (5, 18 e 22), next Thursday (4) will be off duty in the municipality. He justified the measure by citing the passage of the Olympic torch in the city, but admitted that Rio suffered from congestion since Monday due to the Olympic track implementation.
The announcement was made at a press conference at the Rio Media Center.
“These bands have generated disruption across the city, especially Yellow Line, impacting in a very intense way in Barra da Tijuca, on a stretch of the Red Line”.
The mayor asked cariocas to schedule not only for the days of interdictions, but also for the holidays, and that prioritize public transport. Paes apologized for the complicated traffic, but said that the moment is unique.
“Are these disorders worth, these contingencies so that we can show the world that Rio is a very special place. Despite the challenges of this country, we are very proud of what it represents”.
