MILLOR: GRAPHIC WORK

MILLOR: GRAPHIC WORK

The exhibition “Millôr: graphic work ”gathers 500 originals by an artist of difficult classification. Humorist, playwright and journalist, Millôr made drawing his main means of expression, becoming a reference for several generations.
On show, at the Moreira Salles Institute in Rio de Janeiro, is the first retrospective dedicated to the artist's drawings. The curators Cássio Loredano, Julia Kovensky and Paulo Roberto Pires map the main themes that were present throughout 70 years of production by the artist. By winning the galleries, the drawings, made mainly to be published in the press, reveal the strength and complexity of a fundamental work for Brazilian art. A book accompanying the exhibition, in addition to reproducing the originals, brings critical essays and a chronology of Millôr's life and work.
The show divides Millôr's graphic work into five large sets, from self-portraits to the relentless critique of Brazilian life, going through human relations, the pleasure of drawing and the immense and important production of “Pif-Paf”, section that he kept in the magazine O Cruzeiro between 1945 e 1963. Millôr's collection, that brings together more than six thousand drawings and his personal archive, has been under the custody of the Moreira Salles Institute since 2013. The exhibition is open until 21 August 2016.
